Shangxiajiu, literally means vertical 9, horizontal 9 in Chinese; it refers to the fact that 9 vertical streets and 9 horizontal streets make up this small shopping district. Think lots of people, lots of cheap clothes and lots of food.

Guangzhou - Huisheng Mosque

A visit to one of the important Islamic landmark in Guangzhou early in the morning before the shopping spree continue. Cant recall the details, so i just extract it from Wikipedia.

Extracted from Wikipedia
The Huaisheng Mosque, also known as the Lighthouse Mosque, is the main mosque of Guangzhou. Rebuilt many times over its history, it is traditionally thought to have been originally built over 1,300 years ago,[1] which would make it one of the oldest mosques in the world. It was named in memory of the Prophet Muhammad.
The most unusual (in the Chinese context) feature of the mosque is its "calling tower" (minaret). The round tower is 36 meters tall with a pointed tip.[2] The minaret may have served as a beacon for boats, which may explain its name (Guangta, i.e. literally "Tower of Light"). Guangta may also be translated as "Smooth Tower", referring to the unadorned surface of the minaret. From the tower, the mosque itself got its alternative name (Guangta Si, i.e. literally either "Smooth Tower Mosque" or "Lighthouse Mosque").[2] Somewhat similar "minimalist" minarets can be seen outside of China, e.g. at the Khan's Mosque in Kasimov, Russia.
The other name, Huaisheng Mosque (Huaisheng Si), means "Cherishing the Sacred" or "Cherishing the Sage", presumably referring toMuhammad.[2] This name has been Romanized in various ways, such as Hwai Sun Su Mosque, Huai-Sheng Mosque, Huai-Shang Mosque, and Huai-Shang Si Mosque. The mosque is also referred to as the Great Mosque of Canton, and as Ying Tong Mosque.

Guangzhou - Pearl River Cruise

Last night in Guangzhou, a boat trip along the famous Pearl River. Based on my reading, this is the 3rd largest river and China.

Thought it was our boat. Nope, it was not.

Below, was our boat. Took us for about 1 hour ride along this scenery river.

Basically, the cruise/boat has 2/3 levels. mine was 3. if i can recall. we were guided to the 2nd level. Pic below is the area on the 1st level

We were served with chinese tea. it tastes sweet. and also with watermelon and some cookies.

Out seat, next to the window. but the viewing deck area was very limited. luckily, the crowds were tolerable, so, we managed to grab some pics from a good angle.

The colourful bridge like a rainbow

Another fascinating bridge

Too many awesome bridge. love this trip because i can enjoyed viewing different shape and design of the bridge. No wonder China is called the expert in bridge construction.

The Canton Tower

Fascinatingly, the tower was built with lights/LED. basically, everything along the river was lighted with LED or whatsoever related to LED. bright and coloured.

Yellowish

Blue and green, one of my favourite

Another landmark, a stadium

the upper deck area.

Guangzhou - Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street

Another night visit to the famous street, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street. How to get here? i dont know. the organiser took us here. we just hope into the bus, seated and arrived at this place. this is the drawback of going travel with an agency. no initiative to figure out where, how, etc.

It's quite entertaining here. bigger, larger, longer and brighter. perhaps, the longest shopping area. the tips given by the agent, go to the longest junction first, then come back and if got time, headed to the shortest one.

What we did, we get to the longest street, which we never see the end. too many shops, too far to go. plus, time was very limited. so, we turned back, and gathered at the centre.

Not a bad area. but it is more like, sg wang, bb style.ala korean street. full with local and tourist especially teenagers.

Guangzhou - Sha'bi Mosque

A visit to Saad Bin Waqas's Tomb

We later enter into the shrine of our Prophet's uncle.

Some info on Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, extracted from Wikipedia

Sa`d ibn Abī Waqqās (Arabic: سعد بن أبي وقاص‎) was an early convert to Islam in 610-11 and one of the important companions of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Sa'd was the seventeenth person to embrace Islam at the age of seventeen. He is mainly known for his commandership in the conquest of Persia in 636, governorship over it, and diplomatic sojourns to China in 616 and 651.

The view around the mosque.

Shabi Well
As written on the wall, the history of the well has been more than 1300 years. build to memories our Prophet's uncle.

I didn't taste the water. mom did  i guess.

  Halal shop near the mosque.
