VMY2014: Langkawi, Kedah

A short getaway to one of popular island in Malaysia, Langkawi. This island is located at the north west of Peninsular Malaysia. It can be reached via ferry or plane. To us, we drove from KL and than park our car at Kuala Kedah jetty point. There are 2 jetty check point to get into Langkawi, 1 is Kuala Kedah and the 2nd is Kuala Perlis, Perlis. The later is nearer and cheaper.

Waiting are

We missed the 12 pm spot and need to wait more than 2 hours for the next trip. That is why, nobody was seen at the waiting area. People start crowding this place, half and hour before the next departure.

Fare: RM23 for one way. Cannot buy return ticket ah.. have to purchase one way only. And there is only 1 operator at one time

Promotional initiative by a hotel at the seat's cover.

Basically, the trip took about 1 1/2 hour. We reached Langkawi by 4pm on Saturday.

Since we travel out of the peak season, the journey rather smooth.

We straightly headed to hotel from jetty and then proceed with shopping spree at Idaman Suri. We dont hire any car, just grab a taxi. Basically, the taxi fare in Langkawi is standard. RM8 per trip to certain area. Done with shopping, we get back to hotel, place our goods and headed to the stall nearby for dinner+lunch.

We chose this stall. Ikan Bakar Special. They are not the only stall here. Many next to this. Why we chose this? the staff are so friendly and customer oriented. We noticed than she always stand and approach the customer first before we start asking. And, she guaranteed that the fried squid is awesome and crispy.

Row of stalls

Very near to the hotel.

What we ordered?
Pic as below

Lai Chee Kang with ice.

To fit the sunny and humid day. We went here during drought period. Langkawi was not pour with rain for more than 2 months. Seriously hot.

The awesome, superb, crispy and crunchy squid.
The staff was right. Its recipe was different from others and it was not easy to get this style of cooking. Most of the restaurant usually serve with thick flour.

The Siakap or Sea Bass

Spicy!! love it

Tom Yam.
Thai's famous food. Also thumbs up for this

Mom ordered mee kung fu / lagna as usual

The spinach.
Unexpected taste. It tastes much much better than its look and tastier than what we usually had in KL. The saltness of the salted fish paste was mixed very well with the vege. Good job cooks.

Last but not least, the belacan paste. Never underestimate the power of belacan. It's superb. It's spicy. Mixed well with everything above.

The night market.
Theis durian and watermelon stall was famous with foreigners. Korean, Japan, China. All having their durian taste here. we thought of having a durian before wrapping up our day, but all were tired already and mommy need medicine some more. So, we skipped this one

The night market from hotel balcony. This is Kuah Night Market. The longest in Langkawi, perhaps Kedah and also Malaysia. We never finished the walk. Only walk up to 10 meter from the hotel door.

Kuah town at night

Chocolate shopping - 1st round

Plan to have our breakfast here but we were late, all finish

walk a bit and find a stall near the food court building and taxi stand. The nasi lemak looked really good. At first, that's what i thought

Have my first bite and uhuk.. something wrong with the rice or chilli paste or what. i stopped eating and that's it.

2nd round.

Leaving Langkawi.
Picture from the jetty.

It's quite a smooth trip. It's a family trip. Me, parents and my sister. Baby sis will resume her study in Sintok in mid February 2014, so Langkawi is ourfirst pit stop.

Tips:
1- Stay for more than 48 hours to avoid customs tax. we were imposed and have to pay RM50. huhu

  2. Make a secondary list of 3 to 4 limousine rental companies in Boston. Talk to each one of them and ask them as many questions about their fleet, chauffeur, interior, model and make of their fleet, sitting space, etc., and do head to head comparison of each features. You should base your judgment of hiring Boston Airport transportation on all three factors, not any one of the three factors. Each one of them is of equal importance, do not overlook any. Visit airport transfer in boston
